Arrow Art

White bread, bechamel sauce, vanilla ice cream and sleet. How much freedom is "freedom"? Options increase and necessities are reevaluated. When our daily bread, pure water, clothing and health are attainable facts, we dream of something that will set us free from the rest. Las Vegas, Regis Lee, Nasdaq or LSD. Dreaming of the great cash-in and intoxication is, paradoxically, the only thing to liberate us from the chains of being able to feel. Art reflects upon reality which reproduces art which depicts life which initiates art which could be described as an enterprise whose intentions are to provoke an empathic emotional or cognitive impression. The art is asleep; and will not wake up until the viewer regards it as an incitement for her ruminations.

Arrow Agnes & Elin

Wall at Eriksberg junior high in Uppsala .
A picture of the two heroines from the youth film "Fucking Åmål/Show me love" were made into tiles. If you stand too close to the image it appears quite abstract. Only with some distance the picture appears. This is perhaps a metaphor for many students' experience of school?

Arrow Was it a car or a cat i saw

Palindrome in neon
The french philosopher Henri Bergsson (1859-1941) said, ”if we didn’t have a brain we would remember everything, but now we only remember things we find interesting.”

Our perception is selective. In a world, which accelerates, we receive an overwhelming amount of information. We are bombed with pictures and impressions and forced to choose. What we become aware of is determined by our cultural belonging, by a wish for consequences and laws of configuration. We make decisions from the amount of information that we receive, but the focus for our attention span gets smaller, decisions quicker and the Renaissance man becomes only a memory. Freedom of choice is not an easy trail to walk on. Sometimes it leads to involvement, sometimes indifference. Many quick decisions lead to simplification and sometimes even extremism. Polarization becomes a short cut with no demand for more time and shade of nuances. What consequences will this have on our ethics? To question is a necessity. A cat or a car. A palindrome extends the questioning in a playful way.

To what extent can we trust our perception? We can at least agree that we don’t share it with other people, since there are as many viewpoints and apprehensions as there are people. Is everything what it seems to be? Think again – Was it a car or a cat I saw?

Knowing how to read and understand the meaning of words is a necessity in order to understand a language. We have learnt a form of structure for a text. A palindrome revises this conception since you also can read it backwards.

Arrow Grow up, god damn it!

Hemp plant, lamp
A small hemp plant was lit in a way that it created a huge "frightening" shadow on the wall. As an artist you sometimes scream louder than your voice can carry.

Arrow There is no business like showbusiness

Postcard
There is no business like art business either...
If you want to get somewhere in the artworld you'd better be a magician, hanging out all you got!
I wanted to use my showbiss picture as a fake ad in an art magazine. The idea was of course rejected by the art museum, the principal at my art school and a lawyer.

Arrow Uppsala Adagio

Ink drawings
Detailed drawings from photos from the exterior in Upsala. All details have been drawn with the same value. Nothing of what we as an audience normally spend more time in studying (facial expressions, hands) have been dealt with more than anything else. Just like drawings made by an autistic person.
